Details
Thurra River Campground is currently closed
The campground is located in a coastal woodland between the river and the ocean, near Point Hicks. This is a popular spot for families to relax on hot days.
Thurra North Camping Area is located on an elevated site that was recently used as a works compound during the nearby Thurra River Bridge rebuild. The campground offers sweeping views of the ocean, Thurra River, and surrounding dune systems, making it a scenic and peaceful location for campers and day visitors. There are 7 non-powered campsites available, along with a day visitor area. Campfires are only allowed in designated firepits.
The campground is situated approximately 200 metres north of the Thurra River bridge along Point Hicks Road. Access across the bridge to the Thurra River Campground is currently limited to pedestrians only due to ongoing recovery works. Beach access is available via a walking track located approximately 300 metres south of the bridge.
Facilities include two portable toilets are located in the northwest corner of the campground. A shared picnic table is available in the visitor area near the southwest corner at the campground entrance. Each vehicle accessible site has its own fire pit. Additional shared fire pit area is available for tent only sites. It is recommended that you bring your own drinking water.
The campground is accessible by 2WD vehicles via Point Hicks Road. The site surface is compacted crushed rock. For ‘tent only sites’ good-quality tent pegs and a sturdy hammer are required to secure tents properly, these sites are located close together and are ideal for group bookings.
